Family Fun at the Utah State Fair...
Every September Dave starts getting excited and antsy and the root cause is that he loves to go to the fair even though I don't so he wonders each year if we are really going to go. Well, after the amount we all spent on food this year, we will have to think twice about it next year. Anyway, it was another great year at the fair and thank you Steve for taking such great pictures so others can
see our fun!!As we walked in we decided to take care of the animals first, since that is really why we go to the fair. When we were younger, we used to go to all of the vendors to see what they had and wish we had enough money to buy all of the cool toys. Now I worry about losing Rebecca so the vendors are not as much of a draw. The pigs smelled especially bad this year. We could hardly breath. Rebecca was going to try to be a good sport and pet the pig, but as you can see she changed her mind and started walking away before Steve could get the picture.
The sheep were next, and the smell, well, let's just say it wasn't as bad as the pigs which is why Rebecca could stand there long enough for the picture. She still plugged her nose, but the picture of petting animals so she can look back one day and know that she has done that is what it is all about. This way she can never say, "you never let me go anywhere". We went very early on this year and the sheep were not ready for show when we walked through. It is Steve's hope to pet a sheered sheep each year, mostly because you are not supposed to touch them once they are ready to show. Sorry Steve, maybe next year (if we go).
This is Rebecca and Dave doing the token "put your hand in one of the hot tubs". Of course the water is never hot but who can resist feeling and thinking about how nice it would be to have one of these at home. I had a friend tell me once that her hot tub cost $35 a month to run, it put a new perspective on hot tubs and I am not sure I want one anymore. In the past we have gone to the fair later at night and thus have already had dinner. We of course have always gotten the roasted corn on the cob, there is really nothing like corn on the cob with the lemon pepper butter that is really hard to duplicate at home. This year we went on a Saturday during the day and even though we had had a large lunch, we still were hunger before we were done looking at stuff. Now, we as adults could have waited, but Rebecca is very little and when she gets hungery everyone is miserable until she is not hungery (a note to any of you who watch her for us, if she is ever crying she is really hurt or really hungery, those are the only 2 reasons she cries if it is not crying to Dave or I). Well, Dave really felt like if Rebecca got to eat then he should also and so we just decided to get dinner at the fair. We found a $5.50 corn dog (the least expensive item where we were looking) and thought, "I am not paying that much for a corn dog", so we looked elsewhere. We did find the same thing for $3.50 but when you add a $2.50 water, it is just rediculous. That was a lesson learned though, a couple of extra minutes looking saved us $8. Anyway, we also got the corn on the cob latter on.
I was not really as hungery as the picture makes me look, I was just holding someone else's corn to make the picture look good. MM MM Good!! Behind us in these pictures was the Farm Experiance that they had set up for the kids. It was such a good thing for Rebecca. They have you take food to a cow, milk a cow, shear sheep, plant food, harvest food, drive the tractor and sell all of your product for money that you can spend in the "grocery store". Here is Rebecca driving the tractor.
My mom gave Rebecca some money to have fun at the fair. She said the real reason was as a payoff for not asking her to go with us. I guess my mom has seen enough animals in her life. Anyway, we allowed Rebecca to decide where every penny of her money went. A little lesson in budgeting and the worth of money and all. One of the things she decided to do with her money was to ride a poney. She was so proud of herself. She allowed the guy running the ride to put her up on the horse and was not affraid of the horse (which was not the case a couple of years ago at Thanksgiving Point). It was a great day at the Fair!!

Looks like you had fun. My kids wanted to go this year, but with Dylan the timing was bad. And for some reason Russ didn't want to take them by himself. Go figure.
